"The idea behind showing the mahurat live online sprang from the fact that I wanted to reach out to as many people as possible and involve the public with the film right from the mahurat," Sajid said."This is the first time the digital platform is being used for such an event in India. I like to do things that no one has done before and we are all very excited about it. I can't wait to kick- start the film this way," the filmmaker added.

To be held at Ramoji Film City, the event, in keeping with its unconventional approach, will also include a special treat for all the people who tune in."The mahurat will not be the usual cake- cutting stuff with people standing around.

All I can reveal about the ceremony right now is that Ajay will deliver a dialogue, which will actually be the very first shot. So, the audience will see the first scene shot even as I film it. When I told Ajay the idea, he was very excited about it," Sajid said, refusing to divulge more.

The actual mahurat will start at 1 pm, and last for approximately five to six minutes, followed by an interactive session, which will see Sajid quiz his cast.Sajid’s Himmatwala is a remake of the original 1983 blockbuster and will see Ajay step into the ( dancing) shoes of Jumping Jack Jeetendra. The role of Sridevi, who shot to Bollywood superstardom with the original, will be played by Telugu star Tamannah Bhatia.

It is not a not a take-off, nor is it a spoof. Both the films have different stories. It is Ajay Devgn'sHimmatwala," he said.Sajid has already claimed that his version ofHimmatwala, set to release on March 29 next year, will cross the 100 crore mark within one week.

Director flags off project with a retro recording session in the city today Sajid Khan’s Himmatwala remake, or “rewrite” as he puts it, rolls this August. But he will flag off the film with an old-school recording of the Chartbuster Taaki o taaki, from the original, today at noon. Actor Ajay Devgn, producer Vashu Bhagnani and composers Sajid-Wajid will be present at Sahara Studio, Andheri, for the event. “Bappi Lahiri, who composed the original (soundtrack) is out of town. But we have his blessings.

This method of recording with live orchestras faded away with the ’80s. Today, songs are recorded in small rooms with the singers, the composer, a few technicians and sometimes some musicians.

“We’ll recreate the magic with a one-take recording. The musicians have been rehearsing,” says Sajid, who will bring one of his all-time favourite movies back to the theatres after 30 years. According to him, the seven-year period between ’77 and ’84, was the glorious era for Hindi cinema. Himmatwala (1983) wasn’t great cinema, but it started the trend of ‘matka’ dances, thunder thighs and the South invasion.

I make films for the audience. And I promise you, my Himmatwala will earn R100 cr in its first week and be among the top three grossers of all time,” he says. Even after officially buying the rights to the Jeetendra-Sridevi starrer, he has made many changes to the film: “For me Sridevi’s Himmatwala is about heroism. I’ll present Ajay Devgn in a never-before seen avatar, dancing to ‘Nainon mein sapna’ to my sister Farah Khan’s choreography.
